CEO of Twitter for six years, Jack Dorsey is now evolving outside of the social network newly owned by Elon Musk. That said, Dorsey's taste for social platforms does not seem to have faded after his departure, so much so that today the entrepreneur is launching Bluesky, a new kind of social network, decentralized and which should allow users to control their personal data.

It took three years for Jack Dorsey to develop his new project entitled Bluesky. And unlike Dorsey's former employer (Twitter), or even other platforms like Facebook or Instagram, Bluesky pierces the opaque veil that until now these leading networks have carefully maintained. Concretely, Dorsey's platform will be decentralized, and should give users almost total control of their personal data. Moreover, Bluesky arrives in a rather particular context, where the libertarian positions of Elon Musk are portrayed by many media as the beginnings of a radical change at Twitter... partly with the arrival of a paid certification, as well as a completely revised moderation to do less, I quote “less censorship”.

Concretely, Bluesky is a social network based on decentralization, thanks to the technology of Protocol AT (Authenticated Transfer Protocol). This protocol will offer Bluesky users the choice of where to store their data, either through an external host or through self-hosting. Internet users will also be able to choose the content recommendation algorithms that will fill their interfaces. Finally, the interoperability between internal and external services will be guaranteed by the protocol while ensuring reduced loading times, which should on paper offer an optimal experience. To date, a waiting list for the beta version has been opened and already has more than 30,000 subscribers... in other words, a small tremor that would legitimately would worry the other platforms, without dislodging them from their pedestal for now. Small problem, the links between Twitter and Bluesky seem somewhat suspicious. Indeed, Jack Dorsey's new social network has been funded by Twitter to the tune of $13 million, which is expected to continue in the future. It remains to be seen whether the independence proclaimed loud and clear by the new application will be full and complete or whether Elon Musk will not try to exert pressure in one way or another to serve the interests of his new company.
